Continuing the legacy of
Dan Snyder

Opening of the Woolwich Memorial Centre

After six years of planning, fundraising, blood, sweat, and tears, the Woolwich Memorial Centre officially opened on Saturday September 12, 2009. This new facility was a huge dream for Dan, and it is now a reality.

Through five charity golf tournaments attended by NHL players like Heatley and broadcasters like Bob McKenzie, Ron MacLean and Darren Eliot, plus other efforts, the Foundation sought to raise $500,000. Instead, they raised $750,000 towards the $22 million project.

In October 2009, the Atlanta Thrashers made a stop in Elmira to practice at the newly opened Dan Snyder Memorial Arena. The community was thrilled to watch the Thrasher's practice, and it was standing room only around the rink. Afterward, lucky community members attended a lunch and an autograph session with the players. Click here for a great article about the Thrashers visit.
